There are a wide variety of opportunity analyses that can be conducted directly within a good spend analysis tool. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">We find many of our customers and partners following a similar path time and time again with an overarching theme of &#8220;start with the basics and generate quick wins&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>1. Identify Leverage With Existing Suppliers<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">As part of our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sourcing-force.com\/en\/spend-analytics\/\">spend program<\/a><\/strong> we commonly include supplier linkage data (parent\/child) which identifies corporate families. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This is as basic as it gets &#8211; gaining an understanding of which suppliers are owned by the same parent entity. In many cases existing agreements can be consolidated and renegotiated with the parent entity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\">2. Supplier Rationalization<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This is a straightforward analysis commonly using the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pareto_principle\">Pareto principle (80\/20)<\/a><\/strong> that highlights how many suppliers comprise 80% of the spend for each category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9591\" src=\"https:\/\/sourcing-force.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/imgonline-com-ua-CompressToSize-heY36qe3VUjGGh-1024x467.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sourcing-force.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/imgonline-com-ua-CompressToSize-heY36qe3VUjGGh-1024x467.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sourcing-force.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/imgonline-com-ua-CompressToSize-heY36qe3VUjGGh-300x137.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sourcing-force.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/imgonline-com-ua-CompressToSize-heY36qe3VUjGGh-768x350.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sourcing-force.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/imgonline-com-ua-CompressToSize-heY36qe3VUjGGh-1080x492.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/sourcing-force.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/imgonline-com-ua-CompressToSize-heY36qe3VUjGGh.jpg 1562w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Using this type of analysis we can quickly identify the categories where there are too many suppliers comprising the bulk of the spend. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">These categories are then flagged for &#8220;further detailed analysis&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">My personal preference is to take the <strong>Pareto principle<\/strong> a couple of steps further and conduct a 70\/20\/10 analysis &#8211; showing how many suppliers comprise 70% of the spend and how many suppliers comprise the bottom 20% and the bottom 10% (although the breakout can be anything). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This yields enhanced visibility into the number of suppliers that make up 70% (or 80%) of the spend along with the number in the bottom 20% and the bottom 10% of each category. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The additional 20\/10 buckets allow us to see how many small suppliers we are managing for each category &#8211; additional consolidation opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Many organizations have some sort of preferred supplier list either managed in a procurement system or sitting in a spreadsheet on someone&#8217;s computer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Including this information in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sourcing-force.com\/en\/7-steps-to-spend-analysis\/\"><strong>spend analysis application<\/strong><\/a> will provide immediate visibility into two areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">categories where preferred suppliers are in place but not in use<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">categories where no preferred supplier exists, thus highlighting a potential sourcing opportunity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20pt;\">4. Spend by Buying Channel<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">One of the benefits of spend analysis is that it helps to identify process inefficiencies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The buying channel, or source system, identifies where each transaction originated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Companies with procurement systems in place can quickly identify business units\/individuals that are circumventing existing processes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Driving spends towards approved buying channels will improve overall controls, yield better compliance, improve data quality, lead to faster sourcing cycles, provide term discount opportunities and reduce A\/P costs associated with check requests. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sure, many of these or not tangible savings, but substantial benefits nonetheless.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5. Purchase Price Variance<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;Are we buying the same items across our locations and paying different prices&#8221;? We are finding this to be one of the first areas our customers look &#8211; and they generally find some immediate wins. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">By including line item level information (with associated parts\/items if applicable) will quickly enable you to zero in on these opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong style=\"font-size: 26px;\">6. Sourcing Compliance<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">This type of analysis begins to move away from the basic spend analysis towards sourcing execution management. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">At this stage we have used the spend analysis application to identify sourcing and\/or savings opportunities and sourcing initiatives have been completed &#8211; i.e. we have sourced a category and a new contract is in place. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">While there are numerous areas associated with compliance, we can start with the basics.
